Contracts For Phase 2 Of N16 Scheme To Be Signed Before The End Of This Year

Contracts for Phase 2 of the Cornalcoy section of the N16 in Sligo are expected to be signed before the end of this year.

Work is expected to start in the New Year, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed.

Fine Gael Sligo Leitrim Senator, Michael Comiskey, said it is a welcomed development and will improve travel times between Sligo and Enniskillen.

He said: "I am very hopeful that considerable progress can be made in the early part of 2016 so that this critical piece of infrastructure can be much improved in advance of an expected increase of visitors to mark the 2016 centenary celebrations. The N16 will be the primary access route for those wishing to visit Teach MacDiaramada, which is a secret treasure of our 1916 heritage.

"I am also pleased that TII has allocated additional money to two other sections of the road to begin planning and preparation for the future schemes. All of these developments are very welcome and come as a result of hard work of Cllr Sean McDermott, myself and many others from across Leitrim, Cavan and Sligo."
