A public consultation is to begin today, 04 January, after energy firm Eirgrid submitted an application to develop a new electricity substation in Dublin, Ireland.
The application will see the removal of almost three kilometres of overhead lines and 13 pylons at Adamstown.
The consultation is to close on 22 February.
The new development will also allow for the expansion of Grange Castle Business Park.
EirGrid spokesperson Shane Griffin said: "The proposed substation, on an area of about three hectares, is located just south of the Nangor Road (R134). It will connect to the existing Inchicore to Maynooth 220 kV double-circuit overhead line, which residents in the area may be aware of. We will make this connection using underground cables.
"This allows us to remove almost 3 kilometres of overhead lines, which currently run along the Adamstown train line. We will also deconstruct 13 pylons on this route, including the 'Adamstown pylon'. During the course of this project, we have worked closely with public representatives, community groups and individuals, and the removal of these pylons was one of their key concerns."
