The National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) and construction firm BAM has reached financial close to develop and refurbish seven courthouses across Ireland.

The Court Bundle Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project has now entered the design phase and construction is expected to be completed in 2017. BAM Ireland has also been contracted to undertake the management of the facilities for a period of 25 years.

The seven courthouses are: Cork City; Drogheda, Co Louth; Letterkenny, Co Donegal; Limerick City; Mullingar, Co Westmeath; Waterford City and Wexford town.

Theo Cullinane, BAM Ireland Chief Executive said: "We are pleased to have concluded this agreement in relation to the €135 million Court Bundle PPP project. This will support in excess of 2,500 direct and supporting jobs across the country. Our courts are key elements of State infrastructure, and it is a source of tremendous pride for BAM that we will be undertaking the construction, modernisation, and long-term maintenance of these important buildings."
