Concerns have been raised after Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council signalled its intention to remove the roof off Glenalbyn Swimming Pool in Dublin to infill the pool, instead of carrying out refurbishment work.

Green Party Deputy Leader Catherine Martin said it is further proof that it is the intention of the Council to take irreversible steps to decommission the building.

She said: "The latest works to be carried out and the expenditure thereof would have been unnecessary had the Council followed through on the commitment given almost two years ago to refurbish Glenalbyn swimming pool."

Ms Martin intends to table an emergency motion at next week's monthly meeting of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to ensure that only the bare minimum works necessary to render the building completely safe are carried out and that the Council does not use this as a death knell for Glenalbyn.
