Sinn Féin has made an urgent call to Louth County Council to reconsider its decision to go ahead with tomorrow's, 20 January, plan to evict Travellers from Woodlands Park.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams made the call after a planned meeting between Travellers and Louth County Officials did not go ahead because "the Chief Executive barred one of my senior constituency advisers and the solicitor for the Woodlawn Park residents from attending the meeting".
Deputy Adams said: "The Chief Executive has denied my constituents the right to be represented both politically and legally at today's meeting. This is completely unacceptable and I have now written to the Chief Executive to ask that this decision be reconsidered.
"Furthermore, tomorrow's planned evictions should not now go ahead.
"The common sense and most cost efficient resolution to this issue is to urgently bring the halting site up to health and safety standards so that the families can stay in their homes."
