The development of greenways in North Antrim will attract "activity tourist markets", according to Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay.
Speaking after attending the launch of the Sustrans election manifesto, Mr McKay said: "I am glad to see Sustrans have made the development of greenways in rural areas a priority ask of the new Assembly.
"There are old railway lines from Ballymoney to Ballycastle and from Ballymena to the Glens and I am glad they are being considered for greenways.
"I have campaigned for the development of greenways for a number of years. I believe they have huge potential in attracting activity tourist markets as well as being an invaluable health and wellbeing resource for local communities.
"The new infrastructure minister should ensure financial provision is made for greenways."
