Cavan County Council has offered assurances that essential work will be carried out a housing estate in Cavan Town.
Fianna Fáil candidate for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, said that residents of Drumgola Woods have been waiting over eight years for the work to be completed.
"I met with residents in Drumgola Woods while out canvassing last weekend. They are extremely frustrated with the situation in the estate, which has been ongoing for almost a decade. The Council has put poles in place but has failed to add the lights. Not only does the lack of lighting pose a safety threat, opportunistic criminals could take advantage of the situation. Residents are understandably angry," Cllr. Smyth said.
"I have been in touch with Cavan County Council which now claims to have come to an agreement with the contractor to complete the works. I will be following up with the Council to ensure that this work is carried out.
"There is a responsibility on the Council to ensure that Drumgola Woods is secure and safe. At the moment this is not the case. I will be continuing to pursue the Council to ensure that this work is carried out without delay"
