The National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) has been called to answer questions before the Assembly Finance Committee after the firm became aware of the involvement of Frank Cushnahan, in the sale of its northern property portfolio more than two years ago.
Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay said the sale has "seriously undermined and damaged public confidence" in Northern Ireland's property market.
He said: "It has created the impression that some of those who were responsible for much of the economic misery inflicted on the population seem to have received special consideration.
"I can see no justification for NAMA's reluctance to appear before our committee unless it is intent on giving cover to those who may be guilty of financial wrongdoing.
"Therefore in the interests of openness and transparency I would once more call on NAMA to accept our invitation to appear."
