A planning application for a new housing development is Lisburn, Co Antrim, has been rejected.
Lisburn and Castlereagh's planning committee turned down the application to develop new homes at Gortmore Park and Ardane Gardens following concerns from the local community.
Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn welcomed the decision and said that it would have destroyed a much valued green space.
Mr Lunn MLA said: "While I recognise the need for additional social housing in Lisburn, developing this particular site would have destroyed a scarce green space - a space valued by the residents and used by many different groups at various times of the year.
"I took the opportunity to speak to the Council's Planning Committee on behalf of the residents, with around 140 of them attending the meeting to highlight their concerns. I appreciate the careful consideration given to this matter by the Planning Committee of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council and am pleased the residents' concerns were listened to."
