Plans are being put together to develop a new community centre and school sports hall at Adamstown Community College in Dublin.
The Department of Education, the Education and Training Board, South Dublin County Council and Castlehorn Developments have agreed to work on new plans for the college.
Sinn Féin Dublin Mid-West TD Eoin Ó Broin has "cautiously welcomed" the announcement.
Deputy Ó Broin said: "Last week I asked the Minister for Education for an update on this matter. In reply she informed me that an agreement has been reached between the various agencies to provide the much needed facilities.
"I would like to give a cautious welcome to these developments. However it is absolutely crucial that parents of children in Adamstown Community College and the wider Adamstown community are fully consulted before any new planning application is submitted.
"I have conveyed my view to both the Minister for Education and senior Council management.
"Given the size of the local community it is crucial that the community centre meets the needs of the entire community. It is also crucial that the school has adequate sports facilities. Anything short of this is not acceptable."
