Improvement works to a water treatment plant in Williamstown, Co Galway, are ongoing, however the boil water notice for customers has been lifted with immediate effect.
Irish Water customers on the Williamstown Public Water Supply can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth following advice from the Health Service Executive (HSE).
The works included the installation of a UV unit to act as a barrier against cryptosporidium. Filter units were also installed ahead of the UV unit.
Irish Water is currently putting in place a long term solution to the issues in Williamstown including an extension of the Lough Mask pipe line from Ballyhaunis. This is programmed for completion at the end of 2016.
