Funding has been secured to refurbish four permanent bays and 10 transient bays at Woodland Park in Co Louth.
The funding, from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, will provide accommodation for Traveller families.
Sinn Féin Louth TD Gerry Adams welcomed the announcement.
He said: "I want to welcome the speed with which Louth County Council have moved to complete the tendering process and have agreed a finish date of October.
"The provision of these bays will not resolve the accommodation difficulties some of the families still have. There is also a need for a temporary emergency site for those families living on the roadsides."
