The Infrastructure Minister has announced the Executive's commitment to deliver the A5 and A6 major road schemes.
Minister Chris Hazzard confirmed the Programme for Government will improve public transport and greenway infrastructure in the region.
He said: "During this mandate, I want to ensure there is a focus on our strategic infrastructure needs for the next 20-30 years. I recognise that what we do today impacts the next generation too and getting things right now is vital.
"In particular, building transport connections to ensure we have an infrastructure which enables economic growth across the region is key and I am committed to the delivery of the A5 and A6 major road schemes. To this end I will be seeking early discussions with my Ministerial counterpart in the south to ensure their monetary commitment to the A5 remains intact.
"I will also be working to progress key public transport projects, including delivery of Belfast Rapid Transit and Transport Hubs in Derry and Belfast."
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer welcomed the announcement and said we must continue to work with the Irish government on infrastructure issues.
Mr McAleer said: "These strategic projects are crucial, not just within the North but to the island of Ireland.
"These roads do not stop at the border, they are vital transport corridors that connect with road networks linking across the island.
"It is important we continue to work with the Irish government on infrastructure issues, particularly around the Trans European Network to improve linkages."
