Work To Connect Water Treatment Plant To Network Begins

Work to connect a new water treatment plant to the Irish Water network in Co Tipperary has begun.

The work, which is expected to take around two weeks, is part of a €15 million investment in the Burncourt and Fethard Regional Water Supply Schemes.

The investment on the project includes the construction of a new 6,500m three day water treatment plant and reservoir, as well as a new sludge dewatering building and new intake from the River Anner.


Irish Water's Regional Information Officer Aisling Buckley said: "The Fethard Regional Water Supply Scheme serves a population of over 7,000 people, mainly to the north and east of Fethard town, incorporating Mullinahone and Killenaule together with a large rural area. The upgrade of this scheme has many benefits including security of supply, improved water quality, and will lead to the removal of Gortnapisha and Cloran water supply zones from the EPA Remedial Action List. It will ultimately result in the lifting of boil water notices from 40 properties in the area which have been in place since 2007. We will be communicating with customers directly when the boil water notices can be lifted."
