Call For Minister To Provide Funding For Home Building Programme

The Housing Minister has been called to provide funding to Dublin City Council for a home building programme.

Minister for Environment Simon Coveney also said the funding must meet the needs of 28,000 families currently on the waiting list.

Minister Coveney said: "The minister must speed up the procurement process. To date procurement demands have been allowed to bury home building projects in red tape.

"The minister must remove the €20m ceiling on spending. This ceiling has allowed Custom House bureaucrats to stall essential building programmes for years. An example of this has been the Dominick Street redevelopment project. A viable residential and commercial development has been buried alive by the department. This is unacceptable."
