The Housing Minister has been criticised over his failure to provide enough funding for the housing in Dublin.

Sinn Féin Cllr Daithí Doolan spoke to Minister Simon Coveney at a Dublin City Council (DCC) meeting on Monday, 13 June, and asked him to release the necessary funding needed to make use of the land already zoned in order to help bring an end to the housing crisis.

Mr Doolan said "it is now time for action".

He said: "Dublin city has enough land to end the housing crisis. We have land zoned for 53,600 housing units. We have major housing plans to provide 30% social housing, cost rental, affordable and private housing. Funding is the essential missing piece of the jigsaw. If the Minister made funding available, this city could end the housing crisis in 18 months.

"Government bureaucracy continues to stop the development of housing in Dublin. For example, the €20m ceiling on spending and the procurement process has blocked the Dominick St. redevelopment.

"Rhetoric & election promises do not build housing. We have the plans. What we now need is the funding. Minister Coveney must release that funding now."
