Work Begins On Road Resurfacing Scheme In Co Down

Work has started on a £160,000 road resurfacing project in Co Down.

The work on the A7 Belfast Road in Downpatrick includes the resurfacing of a 1.1kilometre stretch on the road, from 180metres north of the B2 Annacloy Road Junction to Bell’s Hill, Crossgar.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard said: "This £160,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure on the A7 Downpatrick to Belfast route.

"Once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface along the stretch."

The works will be carried out under temporary traffic control from 9.15am to 4.30pm daily excluding Sundays. The scheme will be completed under a road closure in July.

To facilitate the resurfacing work a temporary 40mph speed limit will be in operation on the A7 Belfast Road, Downpatrick from 120m north of its junction with B2 Annacloy Road, a distance of 1.2kilometres, to a point 90metres south of its junction with Crossgar Road East, from 8am on Monday 20 June to 8pm on Friday 08 July.
