Around 7,300 jobs could be created throughout Ireland with the rollout of a supported soar sector, according to the Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA).
The association also claims an established solar sector could generate 20 per cent of the country's overall renewable electricity demand.
However, solar is the only energy that does not qualify for a State subsidy.
An independent KPMG report has estimated that the Irish solar sector can deliver €2 billion in gross value added (GVA) for Ireland and return €800m in tax revenues by 2030.
ISEA Chairman David Maguire is urging the Government to use the industry to meet Ireland's commitment to 40% renewable energy by 2020.
