Waste Management firms in Dublin have been slammed over a "massive" rise in charges for customers.
Dublin City Councillor Noeleen Reilly confirmed some households are being quoted increases of over 150%.
She said: "One of the last acts of the Labour/Fine Gael government was to allow companies to essentially charge what they want.
"Illegal dumping costs Dublin City Council €500,000 per annum. The privatisation of the bins was not only an unmitigated disaster for customers, but also the environment.
"I have no doubt we will see further increases in illegal dumping which is already a scourge for too many of our communities."
Cllr Reilly has called on the government to introduce immediate legalisation to stop the level of charging.
