Irish Water has issued a drinking water restriction notice for its customers on the Clonkeen-Fermoyle Group Water Scheme, Dunmore Group Water Scheme, and Tinwear Group Water Scheme, Ballinakill 2 and Durrow 2 Public Water Supplies.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) found elevated Nitrates in the supply.
The affected areas include the Southern part of Ballinakill, the Northern part of Durrow and the areas in between these locations. Laois County Council will be carrying out a leaflet drop to all homes in the affected area on Saturday, 18 June.
In a statement Irish Water said: "Irish Water and Laois County Council will continue to liaise with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting drinking water restrictions as soon as practicable and apologises to customers for any inconvenience caused.
"This Restriction notice does not apply to customers of the Ballinakill 1 or Durrow 1 Public Water Supplies or any other Public Water Supplies in Co. Laois."
