Over 900 families are currently homeless in Dublin, new figures have revealed.
According to the Dublin Regional Executive, a total of 913 families are homeless and Sinn Fein is calling for "solutions now".
Dessie Ellis TD is also urging the government to declare a "housing emergency" as the situation is a combination of conditions that are overwhelming a 'good portion' of the population.
He said: "The government needs to declare a housing emergency and immediately start funding local authorities so they can acquire more vacant homes for much needed social housing. Those in private rented accommodation are struggling with increasing rents.
"The government needs to introduce rent certainty and give these people some breathing space. Also to give these 913 families a chance, a change in rent supplement needs to be made.
"That is why we must look beyond the private sector and towards Government and council intervention to provide the long term solution to this crisis."
