The Housing Minister is being urged to publish the Action Plan for Housing before the Dail breaks for summer recess.
Eoin Ó Broin TD, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Housing, said it is "vital" the issue is not left to linger over the summer months.
He said: "I also asked the Minister to make arrangements with the government whip to ensure that time is allocated for a Dáil debate on his plan, also before the summer break. A failure to take steps towards making inroads into the housing crisis before the autumn, will unfortunately lead to emergency homeless services being further stretched and more children ending up living in hotels and B&Bs.
"I look forward to seeing the Minister's Action Plan in full. I hope it contains some radical ideas to tackle the crisis and that it includes the recommendations recently made by the Housing and Homeless Committee.
"At a minimum, it must contain measures to substantially increase the number of real social housing units, to ensure that housing is affordable and that more protection is provided to those in mortgage distress and tenants in the private rented sector."
