A housing meeting to discuss funding for a major building programme in Dublin is to take place today, 07 July, at Mansion House.
Dublin City Council has announced plans to develop three sites with over 1,300 homes and plans are currently being put together for a further 3,000 houses on the old IGB site.
Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan is calling on the government to release the funding to make the plans a reality.
He said: "This city faces an unprecedented housing crisis. As time move on this crisis deepens. More families are homeless than ever before. Dublin City Council's housing list has grown to an all time length of 28,000.
"This government claimed that tackling this crisis was a priority. To date we have heard a lot of promises but seen little action, only a promise of €200m for local authorities.
"I will be making the case to fund this building programme in the strongest possible terms today. Minister Coveney will be judged not by promises but by action. That action must be taken now."
