Oaklee Housing Trust has acquired land to develop over 40 social homes in Dublin.
Oaklee is currently clearing the Stormanstown site on the Ballymun Road, which was left in a terrible condition by its previous owners Grassridge Ltd.
The 42 units will cater for families on the social housing waiting list.
Sinn Fein Dublin City Cllr for Ballymun/Whitehall Noeleen Reilly welcomed the announcement.
She said: "Stormanstown is currently on the derelict sites register since 2015 and many attempts to get the previous owner to clear the area have been unsuccessful.
"Residents have unfortunately had to live beside this in its current state for the last decade and it really was not ideal.
"Given the past issues with this site, it is vitally important that residents on Shanard Avenue and Ballymun Road are consulted with at all times.
"This development is badly needed in the area and this site has been left idle for too long."
The homes are expected to be completed in 2017.
