Building work is to start next week on a housing development in Poppintree, Dublin.
O'Cualann Cohousing Alliance is developing 49 'affordable' units in the area which have all been allocated.
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor, Noeleen Reilly, welcomed the announcement and said the project needs to be replicated elsewhere across Dublin.
She said: "Unlike the Government who think €240,000 is affordable, O'Cualann has been able to provide a 2 bedroom house for €144,000.
"As a resident of Poppintree, I know these houses are badly needed and there is already a waiting list if any of these homes become available for whatever reason.
"There is ample Dublin City Council land particularly in Ballymun and Finglas which can be used for Social and Affordable units."
