A conference hosted by Mr David Gibney, Co-Ordinator of Right2Water, is to be held at the Carnegie Court Hotel in Dublin on Friday, 02 September.
Sinn Féin TD Louise O'Reilly has said that Right2Water movement is gaining momentum again and will continue to seek the abolition of water charges.
Deputy O'Reilly said: "The issue of water charges has not gone away. The imposition of water charges was rejected by the people and the majority of TDs elected to the current Dáil were sent there with a mandate to end domestic water charging. That fact needs to be acted upon and both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil need to accept that.
"With the government and Fianna Fáil still only advocating for a temporary suspension of the charges, it appears they are not listening to the people. Friday’s conference will be a platform to restate the Right2Water principles and to prepare for the national demonstration in September, where people will once more take to the streets to reinforce their complete opposition to water charges.
"The government must abandon the delay tactics they cooked up with Fianna Fáil, and legislate directly for the abolition of domestic water charges. The national demonstration takes place 10 days before the Dáil resumes and TDs elected under the Right2Water platform will be putting pressure on both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to take decisive action. Everything else is only kicking the can down the road."
