Upgrade work on a wastewater treatment plant is Co Wexford has been completed.
Minister of State at the Departments of An Taoiseach and Defence with Special Responsibility for Defence, Paul Kehoe, officially opened the improved Gorey-Courtown Wastewater Treatment Plant.
A total of €7.2 million has bee invested in the plant which has delivered the capacity to treat all waste water from both Courtown and Gorey to the proper standard. Local bathing water quality is now protected and enhanced enabling the beach at Courtown to retain its blue flag status.
Minister Kehoe said: "I am delighted to mark the official completion of all work on the Gorey-Courtown wastewater treatment plant. The town of Gorey and surrounding areas such as Courtown have been subject to significant growth in recent years and this marks a critical investment by Irish Water in essential wastewater infrastructure in Co. Wexford. It will bring economic and tourism benefits and also ensure we are protecting one of the county’s most important assets – the blue flag beach at Courtown. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Irish Water and Wexford County Council for their work in delivering on this upgraded facility which will facilitate future growth and development."
