The decision by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) to grant approval for an extension of the natural gas network to Listowel has been welcomed by Fianna Fail.
The extension from Foynes to Listowel will cost €20 million, and will use Kerry Ingredients as its flagship anchor load ensuring commercial viability.
Kerry TD John Brassil said the extension will enable Kerry Ingredients to continue with its proposals to invest in a combined heat and power facility.
He said: "Homes will also benefit as they will be able to access this cleaner source of heating, and this is something that is good news for everyone.
"This is a major boost for Listowel, but for the entire county as well. It can act as an economic catalyst for the region, and may be what is needed to get foreign companies excited about investing in the county."
