Sinn Féin is urging the Assembly to work in partnership with housing providers to tackle homelessness in Northern Ireland.
There are around 40,000 people currently homeless across NI and MLA Fra McCann said as not many homes are being developed the problem is getting worse.
He said: "Twenty thousand are declaring themselves homeless each year, hostels for homeless families are at bursting point and so few homes are being built the problem gets worse.
"It impacts on people's quality of life, on people’s mental health, on education and on employment.
"Sinn Fein believes that the assembly need to work in partnership with housing providers and the wider housing sector to deal with the scourge of homelessness."
