Planning permission has been refused to develop a windfarm in Maigne.
An Bord Pleanála made the decision and the local community were seriously concerned about the project.
Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare South Fiona O'Loughlin TD welcomed the announcement.
She said: "I feel that these concerns were not adequately addressed by the developers, particularly in relation to the problems identified by the equine industry. The developers also failed to deal with the environmental concerns associated with the project.
"People recognise the need to invest in renewable energies, but this must be achieved in a balanced manner where the rights of local communities are not trampled on. There have been many successful windfarms constructed right across Ireland in recent years, but what was being proposed for Maigne was out of the ordinary.
"There is now an urgent need for the Government to bring forward new guidelines on windfarms."
