Over 20% of workers at Tarbert Power Plant in Co Kerry are to be made redundant over the next two months.
The firm told staff it is offering a series of redundancies which are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Fianna Fáil TD John Brassil said the announcement will have a devastating impact families and the local community.
He said: "Over the last number of years, there has been a consistent lack of investment in the Tarbert Power Plant, I would hope that the company would commit to future investment at this site in order to grow the workforce again once the implications of the introduction of the Integrated Single Energy Market (I-SEM) late next year become crystalised and fully apparent.
"I would hope that the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O'Connor will use all the options available to her to ensure that everything that can be done will be done to ensure that re-training options, and employment supports are made available to the workers who will become redundant."
