Fianna Fáil is calling for a new secondary school to be developed in Co Kildare.
TD for Kildare South, Fiona O'Loughlin, said the the demand has "never been greater" and is needed to alleviate the growing pressure on school places in south Kildare.
She said: "The failure to develop a new secondary school will inevitably lead to a massive increase in class sizes in the years ahead.
"The development of a new secondary school will also give parents more choice when it comes to deciding what school to send their children to. The recent Irish Times ranking on feeder schools demonstrates that more investment in publicly funded secondary schools is needed to close the gap between fee paying schools and state run schools.
"South Kildare faces significant challenges in our education system in the years ahead due to continued population growth. It's important that we make the necessary investment in our education system now to ensure we can meet growing demand. This is something which top of my agenda and I will continue to pursue the matter with Minister Bruton."
