Construction News Image
Construction work on a new £85million Inpatient Ward Block (IWB) at the Ulster Hospital inn Belfast has been completed.

The GRAHAM-Bam Healthcare Partnership (GBHP) has handed over the keys of the new building, which is the initial phase of the extensive £261m Phase B Redevelopment Programme hospital.

The seven-storey building will provide 12 inpatient wards comprising 288 ensuite bedrooms, a new day procedure unit including 4 state of the art operating Theatres, and an Endoscopy suite where patients will have the opportunity to have a broad range of procedures completed without having to stay in hospital overnight. The building will also provide a new cardiac cath lab and pharmacy departments.

Peter Reavey, GBHP Director, said: "We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. Having commenced the project in 2013, through successful partnering with the Trust, the Design Team and our supply chain, we achieved close collaboration with all the necessary stakeholders. We feel that by this collaboration we have helped to deliver innovation, value and efficiency on one of the most prestigious healthcare framework projects in the UK and Ireland. We look forward to continuing to build on these relationships in the second phase of the Programme for the delivery of the new £95m Acute Services Block which, when complete in Autumn 2019, will be adjacent to the completed IWB facility."
