Minor Works To Be Carried Out On 90 Community Halls In NI

A total of 90 community halls in Northern Ireland are to share £1.9million of capital funding which will be used for minor works to the halls to improve the fabric of the buildings.

The Programme was launched last October with a closing date for applications of 23 November 2016.

Minister for Communities Paul Givan said: "This was a hugely oversubscribed programme with more than 850 applications received. Following assessment of these applications, I am pleased my Department has been able to support ninety organisations in this financial year with the total allocation of £1.9 million.


"My Department will work with these organisations going forward to ensure the successful delivery of very worthwhile community projects. The result will be positive change to much used community facilities right across Northern Ireland.

"Unfortunately, the Department recognises there will be many disappointed applicants. The vast response to this programme demonstrates the need for such support and other applicants to the scheme have been advised that their projects may be considered for support in the future, subject to the availability of budget.

"The huge level of interest in this scheme has shown that my decision to introduce this programme was the right one. There is clearly a need for this type of programme and my hope is that in future years more applicants can see their projects delivered."
