Fianna Fáil has raised serious concerns over the failure to open Kishogue railway station in Lucan, south Dublin.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) is seeking to undertake further review of surrounding lands, however it is likely to be the end of 2017 or early 2018 before the review is undertaken.
John Curran TD said: "Seven years on from being built, the station at Kishogue has been restricted from being opened several times. In November, the Minister promised to review the services once the Phoenix Park tunnel opened, now that has moved to when the lands surrounding the station are developed.
"Our local transport system links our people and our businesses to the city centre, via what should be a rapidly expanding integrated transport network. Businesses and consumers stand to benefit from a well-developed rail infrastructure but there are glaring deficits on the West side of the city, with capacity and integration the key ones.
"People would be happy to live in areas within commuting distance of Dublin if they are assured that they will have strong public transport links to the capital in the years ahead. The opening of the disused station at Kishogue has the capacity to significantly improve services and offer locals access to both sides of Dublin city by rail."
