Sinn Féin is once again calling for water charges to be abolished.
The party made the call after it was revealed that the majority of the special water committee are supporting the total scrapping of the charges.
TD and party spokesperson on water Eoin Ó Broin TD said: "The work of the Special Oireachtas Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services is reaching its endgame. On the basis of discussions today it appears that a majority of the committee are in favour of the total scrapping water charges.
"Further to this the majority of the committee are opposed to a charge for so called excess use and are against the continued roll out of household metering. If the final report reflects this position there will be no reintroduction of Alan Kelly or Simon Coveney's failed water tax regime or a charge for so-called excessive usage.
"If this is the final position of the special committee and if this is what is voted on by the Dáil in coming weeks it would symbolise a huge victory for the Right2Water movement."
