Sinn Fein is urging the Minister for Finance to say "no" to any proposal to sell distressed mortgages to vulture funds.
Minister Michael Noonan owns 75% of Permanent TSB.
Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD said: "Once more the prospect of thousands of families struggling to pay their mortgage waking up to a letter saying they are now in debt to a vulture fund has raised its head.
"The usual nonsense about relationship frameworks will be spouted I'm sure but the fact is that if the Minister were to tell the bank 'no' today this idea would be scrapped. That is exactly what he should do."
