Water Charges 'Must End' – McDonald

Sinn Féin has said water charges "must end".

Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald was speaking at an anti-water charges rally in Dublin.

She said: "Water charges were agreed by Fianna Fáil and imposed by Fine Gael. They thought citizens would roll over. They were wrong.

"The Right2Water campaign won the argument on the streets. We won the battle at the ballot box last year and your Right2Water TDs won the argument at the committee this week.

"The people have spoken. Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil must listen. But they fear another election. They are seeking to hide behind questionable legal advice.

"There can be no hiding place. It's called democracy. Water charges must end, the right to water must be safeguarded and those who paid must be refunded."
