A decision for temporary accommodation for Coachford College in Cork is currently under consideration, the Minister for Skills and Education has confirmed.
Mr Richard Bruton also said the college's building project is included in its Six Year Construction Programme.
However, Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Michael Moynihan, called on the Minister to "press ahead" with plans to deliver on both the temporary and permanent projects.
Deputy Moynihan said: "While the college awaits a decision on the permanent building application, they have sought permission, and funding, for a temporary building to alleviate the current overcrowding at the college.
"The facilities at the college are too cramped as they are, and while we wait for the permanent building, temporary accommodation is needed now.
"I do expect a decision on the temporary application in the near future."
