Fianna Fail has hit out at the Transport Minister after he allocated €1 million for preliminary works on the M20 motorway project between Cork and Limerick.
TD for Cork East, Kevin O'Keeffe said sanctioning €1m is an attempt by Minister Shane Ross to deflect away from the abject failure of the current, and previous, government to deliver on this motorway project.
Mr O'Keefe said: "Unless Minister Ross receives approval from the Department of Public Expenditure, as part of the Mid-Term Capital Review, for the full delivery of this project, the people of Cork will be waiting potentially decades for this motorway linking Cork and Limerick, and opening up rural North Cork.
"This attempt at buying off the local people with an announcement of €1 million will be seen through by all.
"Minister Ross needs to push the Government to provide the full level of funding to deliver the project as part of the Capital Review. Anything less will be a failure."
