Serious Concerns Raised Over Poolbeg Incinerator Incident

Construction News Image
Dublin City Council Manager, Own Keegan, has been called to hold an urgent meeting after Fianna Fail raised serious concerns following an incident at the Poolbeg Incinerator.

Eleven people needed medical assistance after the incinerator was lit less than a week.

Fianna Fáil Dublin City Councillor, Paul McAuliffe said: "I am calling on the City Manager to urgently arrange a briefing for councillors to ensure that the incident has no implication on the safety and health of residents, that workers are not under any further threat and that there has not caused damage to the Dublin Bay biosphere.

"The Government, together with the Dublin City Council officials responsible for oversight of the Poolbeg site must do what is necessary to assure the public that an incident of this nature will not reoccur.

"Health and Safety protocols at the site must be made sufficiently stringent to protect the human health of employees at the plant, locals in the greater South Dublin area and in particular local residents."

Green Party Leader and TD for Dublin Bay South Eamon Ryan said: "This incident is extremely worrying, given the incinerator only began operations this week. Our thoughts are with the 11 people affected.

"We are extremely concerned at this incident happening so soon after incineration began at the site. The authorities need to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. We're calling for all activities at the site to cease while the investigation is carried out."
