Proposals have been brought forward to develop a 2000 sq ft community centre as part of a new development at Charlesland in Co Wicklow for Cairn Homes.
Cairn Homes have included the community centre as part of recent communications with Wicklow County Council.
Stephen Donnelly, Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow and East Carlow and Gerry Walsh, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Greystones have met with management to seek agreement the community centre.
Deputy Donnelly said: "There had previously been discussions around a single room facility, but Cllr Walsh and I believe a larger multi-room facility is required for the growing community. Accordingly we brought forward a proposal to Cairn Homes seeking a larger facility which would potentially include a youth café. Cairn Homes took on board our proposal and have now included it in their plans.
Cllr Walsh said: "A community facility of this scale would be hugely valuable to the growing community in the Charlesland area. Stephen and I are delighted with the progress made with Cairn Homes and commend them for taking such a pro-community approach. The growing teenage population in both the new development and Charlesland would benefit from a youth café and this will complement the already existing sports facilities in the area."
