A boil water notice that has been in place since May in Millstreet, Cork, has now been lifted.
Irish Water issued the notice following the detection of low levels of cryptosporidium in the supply.
However, work to install a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system at the treatment plant has been completed and users of the Millstreet Pubic Water Supply Scheme can now resume normal use of water for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.
Paul Cremin, Irish Water's Capital Programmes Regional Lead, said: "Irish Water and Cork County Council would like to thank the people of Millstreet for their patience, cooperation and assistance while this Boil Water Notice was in place and we greatly regret any inconvenience caused as a result. We are pleased to confirm that, as a result of this work, all those served by the Millstreet Public Water Supply Scheme will now enjoy a much improved water supply with an effective barrier against cryptosporidium."
