Over 1,500 Irish Water customers in parts of Galway have been issued with a boil water notice with immediate effect.
The notice applies to residents on the Kilkerrin-Moylough Water Supply Scheme and Group Water Schemes in Lecarrow/Cooloo, Elmhill, Mullaghmore, Shankill and Fartown.
The boil water notice was put in place following persistent heavy rainfall over the past number of days which has caused a deterioration in the raw water source. As a result the plant is currently unable to produce fully compliant water.
Irish Water and Galway County Council are currently working continuously to ensure that a safe and compliant supply of water is returned.
