A planning application has been submitted to upgrade the water treatment plant in Kilmessan, Co Meath.
The improvements will provide a more reliable and sustainable water supply for Kilmessan and the surrounding areas. The proposed works will also ensure that all water treatment processes at the plant meet the EPA's standards and regulations. Once the planned works are complete the treatment plant will have improved efficiency and will allow for future growth in the area.
If the planning application is granted, the proposed development will involve the installation of a new borehole pump, construction of a new water treatment facility adjacent to the existing borehole which will include a control building, treated water holding tank, backwash water tank, hardstanding area, new site entrance, site access road, site drainage, landscaping and site fencing. The existing water treatment plant will be decommissioned. Subject to planning permission being granted, it is anticipated that construction will commence in early 2018 and is expected to last approximately six months.
