Plans have been submitted to improve two wastewater treatment plants in Westmeath.
The upgrade to Collinstown and Ballymore wastewater treatment plants will increase the capacity at the plants and ensure they are complaint with environmental regulations.
The project will benefit the environment as it will improve the treatment of the wastewater at the plants and the investment will reduce the risk of overflows to the nearby Ballymore Stream which flows into the Dungolman River in Ballymore and the Yellow River in Collinstown.
As soon as the planning application process is completed, work is expected to commence in early 2018 and take 10 months to complete.
The proposed upgrade at the Collinstown and Ballymore Wastewater Treatment Plant will ensure that Irish Water is fully compliant with the EU Urban Wastewater Directives. Investing in Ireland's wastewater infrastructure is a key priority for Irish Water.
