The situation for customer's who have been affected by Ulster Bank's tracker mortgage is "far from resolved", Sinn Fein have said:

The party's Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD said it would appear that the vast majority of customers will have to wait out another summer before the bank starts to provide redress to them.

Deputy Doherty said: "Frustration is building as customers trying to find out when they will receive their redress or simply hear from the bank are being fobbed off with pro-forma replies.

"In some cases the families are in mortgage arrears and seeking some relief from the same bank which is dragging its feet on restoring their rights. That is an intolerable situation.

"It is now seven months since the Ulster Bank CEO told me in December that the customers would be dealt with before Christmas. It is now the height of summer and no resolution is in prospect for most. Ulster Bank pulled out of a meeting with the Finance Committee last month that could have teased out some of these issues.

"It is clear that public pressure causes the banks to move faster. Political pressure must be kept up on the banks and it seems Ulster Bank in particular to do the right thing and to do it without further delay."
