The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been working with Wicklow County Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council on works to alleviate serious potential environmental damage at the former landfill at Bray harbour.
Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow and East Carlow John Brady welcomed the announcementa and confirmed he has been in "constant communication" with the EPA.
He said: "I now understand from recent EPA correspondence to me that a number of actions are due to take place to progress actual works taking place at the site. A final report recommending the coastal protection options is imminent. Following that, a tendering process will begin to appoint a consulting engineer to design any coastal protection works. I also understand that a workshop will take place of the Area Committee Councillor's to discuss the most appropriate remediation option.
"While it seems from my communication with the EPA that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have taken the lead to deal with this issue, it is essential that Wicklow County Council play their part in the decision making process. Wicklow County Council has a responsibility to the people of the area to ensure that the most appropriate option is chosen, one that the community will be satisfied with. So, it is essential that councillors from Bray Municipal District are part of any workshop to discuss the most appropriate remediation option."
