Sinn Féin has called for over 800 jobs at a manufacturing plantin Kilkeel to be secured.

Mr Chris Hazzard made the call after it was announced that Rockwell Collins' manufacturing plant is to be acquired by American firm United Technologies Corporation.

He said certainty for workers and their families should be paramount in proposed restructuring.

Mr Hazzard said: "There is a responsibility for all involved in this commercial takeover to safeguard the jobs and livelihoods for the almost 800 employees in the Kilkeel plant.

"This is an exceptional facility, and it is made so by the dedication of its employees.

"It is crucial that the 'significant restructuring' expected doesn't jeopardise a single job in the pursuit of profit."
