Work is continuing to replace an aging water main in Swords.
Irish Water is working with Fingal County Council on the Swords Water Main Rehabilitation project.
The scheme is taking place between Cooks Road and Forest Road south of Swords, and along Forest Road to the junction with Dublin Road / Main Street Swords, along Main Street and North Street and onwards to Lissenhall, ending near the Swords north M1 motorway junction.
On completion of the works, it is estimated that 44 million litres of water will be saved every month.
The mains rehabilitation work will provide a more reliable water supply for homes and businesses in Swords and to customers in Malahide and Portmarnock served by the Malahide Reservoir. The replacement of the aging water main will result in fewer interruptions to the water supply for customers. Local residents and businesses will be advised of works in advance and will be given 48 hours prior notice of any planned water shut offs. Every effort to be made to avoid unplanned interruptions to the water supply.
Paul Hickey, Irish Water Regional Lead, said: "The Swords Water Main Rehabilitation Project is a priority project for Irish Water. This water main has had a long history of bursting and the replacement of the ageing water main forms part of Irish Water’s investment to improve the water and wastewater infrastructure in Fingal. Replacing the water main will ensure that customers in Swords and in parts of Malahide and Portmarnock will have a more reliable and secure supply which will result in fewer disruptions to their water supply."
